Please do not send coffee and energy drinks with your child to school.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under 12 avoid caffeine and that children and teens limit caffeine to 100 milligrams per day.
A single energy drink can contain up to 15 teaspoons of sugar. They can also cause health issues such as irregular heart rhythms, headaches, stomachaches, nervousness, and shaking hands. Energy/Caffeine drinks can obtain other stimulants and ingredients that are not safe for children. For example, some vitamin waters contain herbal ingredients that haven't been studied in children. The excess sugar in energy drinks can lead to a crash, leaving children tired and irritable. It can also contribute to tooth decay, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
